Iranian missile intercepted while heading toward Turkey’s Incirlik Base, says US official to WSJ

According to a U.S. official and a local official cited by the Wall Street Journal, the Iranian missile that was shot down by NATO was headed for the Turkish military base at Incirlik in Turkey.

Earlier, the Turkish Ministry of Defense announced that NATO forces intercepted the missile as it was approaching Turkish airspace.

NATO condemned the attack against Turkey, a member of the military alliance.

The Incirlik base is located in the southern part of the country, near the Mediterranean.

The base has long served as an operational center for the U.S. Air Force.
