The mayor in Germany identified her adopted daughter as responsible for the attack – Two blood-stained knives found in the house

New details have emerged about the attack on the newly elected mayor of Herdecke, Iris Staltzer, 57, who suffered multiple stab wounds inside her home.

According to information from the newspaper Bild, authorities found two knives — a kitchen knife and another — inside the room of her 15-year-old adopted son. One of the knives was discovered inside his backpack bearing traces of blood. Also found in the backpack were blood-stained clothes, reportedly belonging to her 17-year-old adopted daughter.

Investigators also determined that attempts had been made to clean the scene before the emergency call, but blood traces were later detected again using forensic methods. It is believed that Staltzer may have been severely injured in an armchair while efforts were underway to wipe away evidence of the attack.

She is out of danger
According to the same reports, Staltzer suffered a total of 13 stab wounds, mainly to the upper part of her body, and sustained serious head injuries from being struck with a blunt object. Doctors managed to stabilize her condition, although they did not completely rule out the risk to her life, as vital organs — including a lung — had been injured.

The head of the police operation, Ursula Schönberg, stated that Staltzer is no longer in danger and is gradually recovering.

The mayor named her daughter
Investigators confirmed that the bloody incident took place inside the family’s home, where the two adopted children were present at the time. Both were taken to the police for questioning. According to the head of the Homicide Division, Jens Rautenberg, Staltzer herself, from the hospital, identified her 17-year-old daughter as responsible for the attack. The basement of the house is believed to have been the crime scene.

According to the same sources, the relationship between mother and daughter had been strained in the past. A serious incident between them had taken place last summer. Tensions also reportedly existed with the 15-year-old son.

On Wednesday, the day after the attack, police continued their investigation at the mayor’s home in the Herdecke-Herrentisch area. Shockingly, the public prosecutor’s office announced that the case is no longer being treated as attempted homicide, but as grievous bodily harm, and therefore no arrest warrant was issued.

The two minors are expected to be released and placed under the supervision of the Youth Welfare Office.
